UnlockRiver wanted to find out whether it could survive a 304-meter fall!
In the video posted on May 31, 2017 on the UnlockRiver channel, the Nintendo Switch is seen attached to a drone before being carried up to the desired height, 1000 feet, or 304 meters. !
As surprising as it may seem, however, the console ultimately works perfectly. While the blue Joy-Con (the left one) is broken, the red Joy-Con is still intact. The screen isn’t cracked and the console still works: it’s possible to play on it. UnlockRiver therefore gives it a durability rating of 9.
To pull this off, a drone is used. The Nintendo Switch is attached by a cable, which is itself taped to the console’s screen. The drone climbs to 1,000 feet (around 305 meters) and releases the console once it has reached the right height. It then goes into a lengthy free fall until it hits the ground. Given the noise, one might have expected it to be in several pieces, but that isn’t the case.
No one is likely to drop their Nintendo Switch from 300 meters, but it’s a good sign for much shorter falls. If the Switch can survive a 300-meter fall, it’s reasonable to assume it can withstand a fall from a table or onto the street, for example.
