Data Recovery in Paris: the Chronodisk Laboratory, 15th arrondissement
ISO-5 cleanroom, walk-in reception Monday to Friday, free courier collection across Paris and the Île-de-France region.
Chronodisk has been based at 20-22 rue Louis Armand, in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, since 2007. The laboratory and its cleanroom are at this address: this is where your hard drives, SSDs, NAS or RAID servers and phones are diagnosed and then worked on. Individuals and businesses in the Paris region can drop off their media in person, request a courier collection, or ship it to us.
This page brings together everything you need to know before entrusting a device to our Paris laboratory: how to get here, opening hours, how a recovery unfolds, pricing, and what to avoid doing before you contact us. For the technical side of the job, the data recovery page covers fault types and methods in detail.
A data recovery laboratory in the heart of Paris
Chronodisk was founded in 2005 in Issy-les-Moulineaux and moved to Paris in 2007. The laboratory has an ISO-5 (Class 100) certified cleanroom with controlled temperature and humidity, where drives are opened to replace read/write heads, the circuit board or any other failed component. A single speck of dust on a platter is enough to make data unreadable, so a drive is never opened anywhere else.
A stock of 30,000 hard drives for spare parts is kept on site. A repair can therefore start as soon as the diagnosis is made, without waiting for a compatible part to be delivered. Our engineers also draw on a knowledge base of more than 50,000 recovery solutions. To learn more about the team and the company’s history, see the about Chronodisk page.

Courier collection in Paris and the Île-de-France region
Unable to come to us? Within Paris, an Urban Cycle courier collects your device free of charge, from your home or your office. Outside Paris, collection is handled by DHL, also free of charge, anywhere in mainland France. Before the collection, a technical advisor assesses the situation with you over the phone and explains how to pack the device so that it travels safely.
You can also ship the device to the laboratory address using the carrier of your choice. In every case, the deposit certificate is sent to you as soon as the device arrives.
Every type of media handled in our Paris laboratory
Hard drives, SSDs, NAS and RAID servers, phones, data encrypted by ransomware: each family of media has its own dedicated page.
The laboratory also handles Mac computers, external USB hard drives, databases, virtual machines and Veeam backups, as well as the repair of corrupted photos and videos. If your hard drive is no longer recognised by your computer, that page describes the first steps to take.
How a data recovery unfolds at Chronodisk Paris
Eight steps, from the first call to the return of your data. The price is set after the diagnosis, and nothing goes ahead without your approval.
01
You contact us on +33 (0)1 40 60 00 00 or through the quote form
02
You drop your device off at rue Louis Armand, or a courier collects it
03
We assess the fault free of charge in the laboratory
04
You approve the fixed-price quote drawn up after the assessment
05
We carry out the recovery, in the cleanroom if the fault requires it
06
You receive the list of recovered files
07
You pay for the service
08
We return your data, by high-speed transfer or on a new device
The diagnosis identifies the cause of the fault and the means of fixing it. The price we quote is fixed, based on the fault and the recoverable data, and the recovery only starts once you have accepted the quote. Once the service has been paid for, your data is returned to you. We keep a copy for 7 days, then carry out a secure erasure.
Businesses: the 24/7 emergency unit in Paris
A failed server, a water leak in the server room or a ransomware attack can bring a company to a standstill within minutes. For these situations, the emergency unit answers on +33 (0)6 31 84 07 99, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year round, and work begins in under 4 hours. In Paris and the surrounding region, the equipment is collected on site by taxi or express courier, or handed in at the laboratory.
An account manager assesses how critical the situation is and the resources to commit, then a technical lead and an administrative contact are assigned to you for the whole case. The engineers work without interruption until a result is obtained, with a progress update morning and evening, in French or in English. Priority data is returned first, by high-speed transfer. The full procedure is described on the emergency data recovery page.
What to do before handing over your device
Storage media often allow only one recovery attempt. What you do in the first few minutes determines what can still be recovered afterwards.
- Switch the device off and do not turn it back on. Every start-up of a failing drive can worsen the damage to the platters.
- Never open a hard drive’s casing. Outside a cleanroom, dust settles on the platters and makes recovery harder, sometimes impossible.
- Do not run recovery or repair software on the original device: any write operation can permanently erase the files you are looking for.
- Note the symptoms observed before the failure: clicking noises, drive not detected, error message at start-up, a fall or a power surge.
- List your priority files as precisely as possible. These are the ones we test first.
- For a server: have the RAID configuration, operating system, file system and access passwords ready.
To identify the kind of fault affecting your device, the hard drive faults page describes the symptoms of logical, mechanical and electronic failures.
How much does data recovery cost in Paris?
The assessment of your device in the laboratory is free and without obligation. It lets us give you a price before any work starts, based on how severe the fault is and how much data can be recovered: replacing a set of read/write heads is not the same job as a firmware repair followed by platter polishing. RAID, NAS and SAN servers are quoted individually, depending on the number of disks, the level of urgency and whether encryption is involved.
Collection is free of charge. Payment is made at the end, when we return your data. If you would like your damaged device back, the request must be made within 7 days; return shipping is charged at €30, except for servers. Full terms, including the specific cases of SSDs and phones, are set out on the offers and pricing page.
