Veeam Backup Recovery
Are your Veeam backups damaged or encrypted by ransomware, or are you facing an issue preventing your backups from being restored?
Veeam backups, a reliable safeguard
but…
Veeam Backup & Replication has established itself as a leading backup solution for virtual environments, and beyond. Veeam stands out for its efficiency, simplicity and reliability. Known for offering what the vendor calls “radical resilience”, Veeam allows businesses to withstand all kinds of IT disasters. The Veeam backup solution is designed to provide maximum security, minimising the risk of data loss thanks to a fast, easy-to-use restore system.
Despite the promise (generally kept) of a complete, reliable backup, incidents can still happen: backed-up data can become unavailable or incomplete, files can be damaged or encrypted following a ransomware attack, backup repositories can become unreachable, and so on. It is therefore not uncommon to come across an error message such as: “All instances of the storage metadata are corrupted” or “Backup Files are Unavailable“…

Causes of data loss from Veeam backups
How does Chronodisk help restore
your Veeam backups?
Our teams are available 24/7 to help you get back on track.
Advanced Veeam extraction
We work on all types of Veeam files that are damaged or locked by ransomware. These files may contain virtual machines or databases.
Commitment to transparency
Once our work is complete, we provide you with a detailed report, including a full list of the recovered files and their condition, for complete transparency on the service.
Cutting-edge proprietary technology
Our team uses exclusive methods to analyse and restore your Veeam backups. We develop our own solutions, software and methods.
Chronodisk’s capabilities
Our laboratory is located in the Paris region, guaranteeing you maximum confidentiality.
Our Veeam backup recovery capabilities
At the heart of what we do: data recovery, including databases, virtual machines and files from Veeam backups that have been damaged, corrupted or encrypted by ransomware attacks.
Depending on the specific requirements of each situation, our approach allows us to either make virtual machines fully functional again, or extract and secure their valuable data.
Chronodisk’s engineering team alternates between critical data recovery assignments for our clients and periods dedicated to research and development. This dual focus not only ensures successful recovery outcomes but also drives the constant evolution of our techniques and our arsenal of specialised tools, for greater effectiveness across all our work.

Why restore points corrupted by ransomware can still be recovered
This is possible because the attacker often fails to fully encrypt the data or damage the entire original backup.
Servers dedicated to backups are usually rigorously secured, often with network segregation in place, which means attackers typically overlook large files during ransomware incidents. Encrypting large files takes considerable time, and cybercriminals are generally in a hurry to manually encrypt as many files as possible before being detected.
Veeam versions we have successful experience with
Our expertise covers a wide range of Veeam versions, including Veeam 12.1.1, Veeam 11a, Veeam 10a, Veeam 9.5, Veeam 9.0, Veeam 8.0 P1, Veeam 7.0 P4, and Veeam 6.5, reflecting our ability to work across a variety of configurations.
Our Veeam backup recovery options
Veeam data recovery in our laboratory: a complete approach
The majority of our work is carried out in our laboratories. This traditional method offers a significant advantage: we have access to a wider range of recovery solutions, particularly for physical servers.
Laboratory work becomes necessary when data is not only compromised but also deleted. In these cases, the precision and range of techniques available allow us to maximise the chances of fully recovering the lost data.
Remote backup recovery: efficiency, flexibility and security
Remote recovery of Veeam backups is becoming increasingly common in our operations, offering significant advantages. This method removes the need to physically transport equipment, reducing logistics costs and eliminating any risk of damage during transit. Customs-related complications are no longer a concern either.
Another major benefit of remote recovery is the ability to keep your server running, allowing essential services to remain operational. This approach minimises disruption to your business and ensures continuity of operations, while still enabling recovery of critical data.
Thanks to our 10 Gb/s high-speed connection, our remote capabilities are backed by fast, secure exchanges. We use the secure SFTP protocol for all transfers. At every stage, we ensure the integrity of recovered files, guaranteeing they perfectly match the originals, with no alteration or loss.

Our success stories
Once the VBK file was downloaded, containing seven virtual machines totalling 750 GB, our team got to work. In under 48 hours, we managed to fully restore all seven VMs, strictly following the priorities set by the client. Thanks to precise synchronisation between the VBK file and the VIBs, we were able to recover the data to the point just before the attack. Six of the Hyper-V VMs were made bootable in VHDX format.
This fast, effective intervention was carried out despite the LUCK ransomware attack, demonstrating our ability to respond with agility and expertise in crisis situations.
Faced with this emergency, we took charge of a Synology RS820 server configured in RAID, fitted with two 2 TB Western Digital Ultrastar DC HA210 hard drives. The goal was clear: recover two essential virtual machines, 1 TB each, contained in a Veeam VBK backup file.
With precision and speed, we successfully restored a VBK file dated the day before the attack, ensuring the full recovery of the client’s priority data. This intervention was carried out in the face of the adversity posed by the AKIRA ransomware, demonstrating our ability to restore vital data in extremely critical circumstances.

How do you keep data secure?
Backup and recovery… 2 essential pillars!
Data has become essential to the smooth running and growth of businesses. Regular data backup helps prevent the loss of critical information due to system failures, human error, cyberattacks, and so on.
Data recovery plays an equally important role, allowing businesses to quickly restore their systems to a working state after data loss. In response to ransomware attacks, where a third of affected businesses fail to recover their data even after paying, an effective recovery strategy is vital for reducing downtime and financial losses.
Adopting robust backup and recovery practices has therefore become essential to maintaining data integrity and business resilience in a landscape where digital threats are constantly evolving.
