The Lima is a brand-new cloud storage solution, 100% French, that aims to compete with giants like Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, and iCloud. Its distinguishing feature: its “cloud” is local, accessible only from its owner’s devices.

Lima is one of the most successful crowdfunding projects in France. Unveiled on the Kickstarter platform in July 2013, the idea quickly won over internet users and managed to raise more than a million dollars in just three months.
Two years later, the project has been successfully completed and the Lima is about to be released.
To establish itself in the cloud storage market, where companies like Dropbox have already set the standard, the Lima device will rely on its interesting distinguishing feature. Whereas the industry giants are all “hosted” on the internet, on servers whose location isn’t always known, this new French offering will be entirely local.
To operate, the Lima requires only two connections: a connection to your internet line and a USB connection to a storage device.
Once connected, it will serve as a personalized “Cloud” device. All devices with access to your local network, connected via Ethernet or Wi-Fi to your router, will be able to send their files to the USB device plugged into the Lima.
As a result, all your devices will benefit from the same storage space and will be able to access exactly the same files. The only requirement for this will be to have the Lima app installed on each of them.
With a 1TB external hard drive connected, for example, your smartphone will immediately gain access to this entire storage space, in addition to its own built-in memory. It will be able to access the files stored there at any time.
