Following the success of the cloud, hardware manufacturers are increasingly looking to stand out by releasing their own personal storage systems.

The idea is to let you share your files while on the move, across all your Wi-Fi connected devices.

To do this, simply switch on the Wi-Fi USB drive before use, then plug it into your tablet or computer.

Once switched on, the Wi-Fi USB drive acts as an access point for your other devices, giving them access to all your shared files, photos, folders, games or music.

This USB drive has a wireless range of 10m, which is handy for family outings, or long car or train journeys with friends or children.

There are, however, 2 technical limitations: only three users can connect to it at the same time, and continuous access to stored data is limited to four hours, due to the limited battery life. Otherwise, this USB drive is smaller than the previous model, while offering double the capacity. This new Wi-Fi model comes with an app for Android, iOS, as well as Kindle Fire and other e-readers.

Another drawback is that this Wi-Fi USB drive is not compatible with the USB 3.0 standard, which, let’s face it, is very handy for quickly copying large files. As a result, if you accidentally delete files and want to use data recovery software to retrieve them (Recuva, which is free, is one example), scanning the entire contents of your USB drive over USB 2.0 will take 4 to 6 times longer than over USB 3.0.

Our advice: wait for the USB 3.0 version of this Wi-Fi USB drive.
